Detailed. Philosophical. Insightful. Humbling. Those are just a few words to describe the Newberg Report. In a world of 90 second local news segments and ESPN paying attention to only the eastern time zone, the Newberg Report is a beacon of fandom for Rangers fans. You will not be disappointed.
I am a Texas transplant since 2001 and a huge baseball fan (Cardinals #1, Rangers #1.2). Only one city is fortunate enough to have a Jamey Newberg. The only comparison I can make to what he brings is NPR (public radio). Value far outweighs the small cost that each of his followers pays.
His annual reports are the culmination of a years work and also contains plenty of forward looking insights that you need right now. Great purchase that I highly recommend.

I have been a fan of Jamey's musings about all things Texas Rangers for years. Not only does he offer insight into the team, minor leagues, front office, and baseball in general - he does it though the perspective of a true fan, not a media member. He doesn't overwhelm with Saber-metrics, slash lines, and rumor/innuendo off the Twitter feed. He writes from the perspective of the everyday baseball fan, one who grew up rooting for the lovably disappointing Rangers - as that of a Dad whose son has embraced the game as he did, and as that of a guy who deep down wishes he could have been a "baseball player when he grows up" - as my 6 year old son does.
The book combines his insights, evaluations of all levels of the Ranger organization, and baseball musings into a must have history of the season that was. The year 40 years of Ranger pain gave way to the unadulterated joy of a World Series appearance - when Ranger fans old and young felt like they were 6 years old again and lived on every pitch and at-bat as the team failed to win the ultimate prize - not that it really mattered for the true fan - not that it mattered to Jamey.
A true baseball fan keeps the bound edition on their shelf - I know I do.
Nobody will ever do better to sum up the magic of the 2010 Texas Rangers. Jamey is THE voice of the Ranger fan and garners much more respect and admiration than even the professional columnists in DFW amongst the Rangers purists. Those who know the Rangers depend on Jamey before anyone else.
Unless you tivo'd the Rangers entire hot stove, spring training, season and post-season, you can't relive 2010 without this book.
It is Time! That was a slogan that started with chuckles and turned into a chant that reached across the baseball landscape. This book captures the the amazing Texas Rangers season when they exit from being one of the last, if not the last, sports franchise to win a playoff series to making a World Series appearance.
What sets this book apart from any other book on the Rangers' season or any other teams book, is the majority of it is written without the author knowing the end of the story. So the free agent signings during the winter and spring are really what was thought about it then. Not with the knowledge of how it was instrumental in getting them to the World Series.
It you are going to buy 1 sports book this year. It is Time! buy this one!
The Newberg Report is a truly awesome dedication of a super fan! Jamey does a tremendous job at allowing everyone to gain that inside scoop, or what feels like the inside scoop, on a daily basis of the accounts of THE TEXAS RANGERS. This book not only follows the Major League team, but also brings in the often forgotten farm system that puts the team in the position to trade up and be in the World Series. I love reading the what if's and what I would do as a fan...Jamey truly is a super fan, keeping all of us Biggest Fans up to speed on what is or could be going on with in a Major League Baseball team. Sometimes he nails it, sometimes the Rangers didn't read the suggestions...but for a baseball fan, especially a Texas Rangers Fan, this is a must read.
